AUCKLAND, April 11. The Auckland builders resolved by a large majority to take their dispute with' the employees to the Arbitration Court. They received a deputation from four bricklayers' labourers, and agreed to reduce the hoius of the men to 44, and to increase the pay to a shilling an hour. WELLINGTON. April 11. The officers of the coa.stal and intercolonial vessels have formed themselves into an association, which Las been registered under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act. The association has an adherence of over 200. TAILORING TRADE CONFERENCE. A conference of the Tailoring Trade Unions of the South Island was opened in the Trades Hall, Dowling street, on Saturday last. The following delegates were present: — Messrs Moriison (chairman). Wainfield, and Wilson (Dunedin), Barrington (Invercargill), Whaleman (Chnstchurch), and Gohns (secretary). It was decided that as the Government required a large quantity of clothing for the post office and lailway officials and Defence department, they should fte urged to establish a Government tailoring workshop in one of the chief centres of the colony. By so doing they would employ a laige staff with gieat benefit to the Government and the workers of the colony. The visiting delegates were entertained at a dinner held in the European Hotel on Wednesday. Strong exception wa« taken to the remaiks of one of the. delegates of the Trades and Labour Conference that tailoresaea could leara then trade in a year.
