Noties from Tuaneka.
(From Ojr Wetherstones Correspondent.) April 15 — The Golden Ciescent finished with the gully last Tuesday, and from the look of the ground I should scaicely think the result would be very satisfactory. Indeed, I did not think they wou'd work so far up, for it has been well cleaned out before. They commenced carting away their plant and pipes in the afternoon, and finished last Saturday. They have got some new pipes from Dusiedin, not having sufficient to leach down. They are taking the hue of pipes down Post Office Spur, and they intend to commence elevating at the foot of the gtil'y, on a terrace on the v/est side of the fiat, close to what is known as the Whim Shaft. Some of the old miners prophesy that it will not paj , because a lot of the bottom has been driven, out. As an instance of how much they know, however, 1 was told by a Lawrence resident that when the Wetherstcnes cement battery was stopped, and before the plant and pipes were sold, he asked severs I resld?i;ts in Liwrence, W&thcrstones, and the BLie Spur to form a. company and buy tho pipes, lease the Phcen:x dam, take up the Wetherstores flat, or what. they could of it, anJ ccmn.ence liydraulickir.gr and elevating The} only laughed at him. He askod sevcisl miners in Wetheistones what thp"" thought of th_- speculat'on, and thoy t-dviaed. him to have nothing to do with it, saying that it woul'l never pay. That wis £c T.e years hcfore the Golden RibS took t/>o g±-o<i".d up, a rS instead of it paying them shillings, it has tv.u . and is paying them pounds nor day. A' a these miners any wiser.'
