In sending this problem, Mr Veal says — " I wrote to the editor of the Noith Amencan Checker Board offering to return my prize for problem, which I found to dual badly at second move. He replied saying I hpd others worthy of the prize, an-d he would re-awaid it for the above. He remarks — ' It 13 a veiy neat and practical ending liable to occur in almost any one of the numerous openings of our game.' "■ — Liverpool Meicury.
