WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS
Br F. Roufthl April 12. Dear Pasqum,— Shows of the variety order still rule the roost and supply the rosters up here m the Empire City. The Opeia House is still m the occupation of Montgomeiv's Bioscope Companj. It is generally conceded that the i.umated pictures shown by this company are the best yet ccen here, and there are many novel and unique films displajed. There has bvicii good business doae, too. We are to have the Adelphi Dramatic Company in the Opera House from the 24th April to the 7th May. The Wellington Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society Ins pencilled i«i dates fiom 21«t to 20th May at the Opera House for its "Iclanthe" season. Tom Wilford, M.H.R. for Wellington suburbs and candidate fcr the Wellington mayoral chair, was cast for the leading part (Loid Chancelloi). I now hear that he has lesigned the pait — while only a few months ago he was "dying to play"— no doubt because he is sanguine that he is going to beat Ma\or Aitken. our solid muldoon. Tom probably thinks it v. ould be mfra die for the Mayor +0 play the L.C., though he has nevei thought this of an M.H.R. He is not only in fi a dig, I lit he's m for a drop as well— a drop m popular estimation that will give him a rude shock. Dixs Gaiety Company has gone, and yet Dixs Gaiety Company 13 still with us. It is a theatrical case of the king is dead— yet he ls.i't l or, old lamps (I mean laces) for new. The present loster of the company nightly drawing bis; houses <tt the Theatre Royal is entuely different to that which I published 111 my letter a short time ago. On Apul 5 we saw the la-ft (for a season) of the foUowmg people -John Colom?n, Frank M. Clark, Miss Lottie Lorn, Joe Cowan, Miss Olive Lerton, Miss Nora Martin, Bob Hall, Alf. H.-yden, Miss Ich Clarkscn, Miss Stella Gonrale, Mi=s Nn, a Gonzale, Little Lily Clark. Since then re have had a lot of new faces back ngam 01 tha boards. The rostpr now contains— Frank Yoike, Ferry the Frog. Ihe Williams Quartet* e, Arnold Jarvis (the colonial Cmque"aih), Tom Leonard, Arthur Halm, Mathews, Miss Arnetta Bodin, Miss Ida, Clark=on, Geo. Raystcn. "Bis" is back 111 to.vn a-sfun, after piVi^i the Stanford Dramatic Co. thicugh the i=la> d to Auckland Whei' he gee back ti Wellington he found oners awaiting him from three ei.-tertamp'-s. Thu=>, it nevpi lams but it poms, and "Bis" had the luxury of picking and chocing. May he choo=e wisely and well.
