The fortnightly meeting, held on Thursday, April 11, was attended by Messrs J. Hay commissioner), A. Kinross, J. M'lntyre, D. King, and A. Baldey. Mr Gilfedder, on behalf of W. Darley, lequested the board to repair a fence on the eastern boundary of sections 10 and 12, Otahu. — Refused The Chief Commissioner and Mr M'lntyre lc-poited ha-ing inspected a settlers' bush rescive in b'o^k 11, Oteramika, and did not think the same should be granted for sawmilling purposes. They therefoie recommended that the aiea be letained for tlie benefit of settlers, as ongmally intended — Ecport adopted, Mr King dissenting, and it was resolved that a former resolution granting the reseive to M'Callum aid Co , as a spwmillmg areo bo rescinded It was resolved that the surveyor be instructed to examine and report oj John Collms's application for land between Alton Creek axid Papatotara. (Mr Gilfedder appeared in support of application). The Commissioner reported that J. M. P. Scobie had not yet paid the valuation for mipio\ements on pastoral run No. 427, J'ltiroa district, formeily held by E. Storey. — Resolved that Mr Scobie be informed that he is not to enter into possession until the improvements are paid. Pemn and Murray and John Holland applied for permission to remove stone from the foreshore near Mokomoko Inlet. — Referred to ranger for report, the commissioner to deal with the applications. T. J. Pearce asked for a grazing right over sections 10 and 12, Otahu — Held over for report by Messrs Baldey and King. J. H. Buckingham offered to take up section 5, block XIV, Mokoreta (open m the gu:de pt 10s per acre) if the price be reeluced to 6s 8d. — Kesolvod that the price be reduced as requested and that the section be re-offered on optional system. Hugh Killen, lessee of sections G, 7, 8, and 9, block XII, Oteramika, applied to give up section 6 on the groxuicl that it would co«fmoie to fence it than it was worth. — Refused. W. P. Lawrence applied for a. tramway right through sections 5, 6, and 36, block XXIII, Invercaigill Hundred. — Gianted on payment of per annum, but no exclusive n^ht gi^en. J. Hunter, ferryman, applied for the right to occupy the reserve o i the right bank of the Waiau Eiver, at its mouth. — Granted during pleasure of board, without any exclusive right. N. A. Xeiderer was granted a license at £J per annum over 25 acres m section 17, block VII. Oteramika Hundred. M'Callum and Co. were granted a sawmill hccn°e over 200 acies of reseived area attached to sa'.vmill area, l\o. 416, Presei atioj district. Alex. M'Donald asked permission to plough and lay down in grass section 19, block 111, Mataura Hundred. — Granted; license renewed at present rental from Bth August 1901. The following applications for land were granted — George Young, sections 3, 2, and 3, block XIII, Waiau; Alex. P., Robert, and W. S. Scobie, small grazing lun K"o. 43, Takatirno, and Sarah Ann Armstrong (for whom Mr Gilfedder appeared), for 29 acies m block I, Longwood. The (following tranafeis were appioved — Sections 42 and 43. block V, Longwood, from Wm. Calder to 8.. Ward, sections 4T and 50, block V, Long wood, from George Cilder to Tbos. Ward ; section 48, block VII, In-'ercaigill Hundred, irom Robert Meldrum to A Suns ; section 49, block VII, Inveicargill Hundred, from R. Meldrum to A. O. Pointer, section 47, block VII, Invercargill Hundred, from Mrs M. J. Melcirum to A. Sims, and s^c'io'is 39 to 41, block I, Waikawa, from R. Faulkiner to Mrs J. Faulkiner. The total of our shipping ;<• 9,164, 0C0 tons. That of the six other Gieat Po-.v-js i«9,070,000 tons. The Kaitangata School Committee is (says the Bruce Herald) obtaining a referendum fiom parents as to whether they will allow their children to go to Dunedm to join in the children's demonstration on the oena-,icm of tl.c visit of the Duke and Duchess oi York. "With some feeling the Presbytery appointed a commission to consult the Winton consrecahon, -''nd re port to the next meeting of the presbytery. The Government intend to start a fore-t reserve of 10,000 acre-, on the Rimutaka-, between Cro-b Creek and Kaitoke. liwrvtions have also beeo gn en for the eatah hshment of a nursery about 30 acres in extent on a block of Government land between Trentham and the Upper Hutt, and Mr Matthews, tho Siate fore-> L ev, his ar rived in Wellington in connection with the project. Trees of the varieties which are known to he suitable for cultivation in New Zealand will be grown in the nursery, awl after they have reached a certain size they will be removed to the Rimutaka resorie. The process will be repeated until sufficient troes have be^n reared to plant the whol" of the reserve, which is now destitute cf bush.
