Clarke's bk d p Cleughbrae, by Under the Globe— Tiny Polly. FIFTH ROUND. Betting : 9t04 on Farndon Ferry. In a short race Fearless Footsteps at once began to go the faster, being three-parts of a length m front as they neared the hare. Pussy, who had b-een bearing very slightly to the right in favour of the bitch, then shifted a little to the left in favour of Farndon Ferry, who almost instantly showed in front, but lost the first point through hanging a httle inside his hare, instead of going true behind. Fearless Footsteps then brought her hare clean round by the right with a good lead, and she shot still further ahead from the next sharp turn, soon afterwards settling accounts with a smart kill. There was much disagreement as to which got the first turn, but the judge decided this point in favour of the black^end in such case Farndon Ferry nc\-er scored in the course. DECIDING COURSE. Betting- 11 to 2 on Fearless Footsteps. Cleughbra«, after his gruelling, started dead slow, rapidly dropping fully four lengths behind. He gamely reduced the gap towards the finish, but Fearless Footsteps going on in grand possession, it was always a stern chase until towards the finish, when Cleughbrae struggled gamely to the front before a good hare beat them at the sough. The diiration of the course ■was 41 3-ssec. "Vmdex," in the London Sportsman, writes as follows • It must be agreed that Fearless Footsteps gained her second Waterloo victory in most meritorious style, and she certainly ran on in her fourth course. Her second on the second day was the best so far that she had run, and ea-ch of her to-day's performances was nothing short of brilliant. She has been si splendidly good bitch all along, and might have made a Waterloo mark three years in succession had she run as a puppy. As it is, she ha 3 rivalled the feats of 'Cooniassie and Miss Glendyne, though the great deeds of Fullerton and Master M'G-rath, of course, still stand in frcnt. Col. North, as owner, is also still at the head of Waterloo records, though Messis Fawcett are now, m a sense, on a level with Lord Lurgan in having owned the Waterloo winners of three years — Fabulous Fortune in 1896 and Fearless Footsteps last year and this. The daughter of Fabulous Fortune and Fille de Feu will hardly be likely to run m next year's Waterloo, but Messrs Fawcett's kennel is very likely to supply the favourite once more in Farndon Ferry. Fearless Footsteps, it ought to be added, was brought to the slips in really superb condition, her brightness and muscles developing as the week advanced, and rfhe was certainly a picture whilst standing for her photo after her great triumph. Her very able trainer held the leader quite slack whilst she raised in perfect position, as though she knew ■what was required. Tom Wright no doubt felt — as lie looked — a proud man, and in the •way of training winners he certainly holds a notable record. Mr Hartley Bibby created the Waterloo record in nominating the winner for two years in succession with a greyhound not his own, and he, as well as the owner, came in for many warm congratulations.
