THE CONINGHAM DIVORCE CASE.
A VERDICT FOR DR O'HARAN.
Sydney, April 2
The second hearing of the suit in which Arthur Couingham seeks a divorce from his wife on the grounds of adultery with the Rev. Dr O'Haran was concluded to-day.
The judge made a lengthy and able summing up of the evidence. The jury, after two and a-quarter hours' retirement, brought in a verdict for Dr O'Haran on all issues.
Immediately the verdict was announced there was tumultuous cheering in the court. The petitioner fell forward on the table, sobbing. A moment later, with a loud cry, he sprang towards Dr O'Haran. The latter evaded him, and Coningham tripped and fell. The spectators seized him, the petitioner meanwhile yelling "Let me at him!"
The jury added a rider that they did not think there was sufficient evidence to warrant a charge of conspiracy.
April 4,
Dr O'Haran is the recipient of hundreds of congratulatory messages, including telegrams from Archbishops Redwood (Wellington) and Grimes (Christchurch) and the Rev. Father Cleary (Dunedin).
