QUEEN'S MEMORIAL FUND.

OVER £900 ALREADY SUBSCRIBED

A meeting of the -General Committee of the Queen's memorial fund was held in the Board Room, Agricultural Hall buildings, on Friday, 29th ult., when there were present — Messrs Keith. Ramsay, A. Sligo, G. Roberts, D. E. Theomin, H. E. Muir, E. Melland, G. L. Denniston, J. C. Thomson, G. Joachinr, J. Reid, W. B. Vigers, A. S. Paterson, C. S., Reeves, N H. Bell, F. W. Petre, Bishop '.Nevill, and the Hon. Messrs Bolt and Fergus. Mr Keith Ramsay was voted to the chair. Apologies for non-attendance were received from Messrs H. V. Fulton, R. T. Wheeler, jun., and A. Burt. $ Bishop Nevill was elected a member of the committee. The Chan-man made a statement as to an interview he and Mr Bathgate had with his Worship the Mayor with a view to inducing him to withdraw his resignation of the chairmanship of the committee, but this his Worship did not see his way to do. The Chairman also mentioned that he had approached Sir Henry Miller, who had consented to .act as president of the committee. He moved that Sir H. Miller be appointed president. The Hon. Mr Fergus seconded the motion, which was carried.

It wa.9 resolved that it be referred to the Executive Committee to take steps to induce the assistance of the Echool children throughout Otago in the movement. Bishop Nevill made a few remarks expressive of his sympathy with the movement, and said he would give a donation of sgs

A letter was read from Mr A. Wilson resigning his seat on the committee, owing to his inability to attend. It was decided that the resignation be accepted with regret.

A letter from the Town Clerk, Invercargill, acknowledging receipt of the circular issued to mayors, etc., was read. The Committee resolved that the ladies of Dunedin and suburbs willing to assist in the movement bo invited to attend a meeting to be convened for next Tuesday afternoon.

The Chairman reported that it had been suggested that his Royal Highness the Duke of Cornwall and York be asked to lay the foundation stone of the pedestal for the statue. It was decided that his E-ccellency the Governor be approached to ascertain if it would be convenient for his Royal Highness to lay the foundation stone during his visit to Dunedin, and also that a copy of the resolution be sent to the executive of the Citizens' Reception Committee, with a request for their co-opera-tion.

The committee then adjourned till Wednesday afternoon.

The contributions received up to the present for the memorial fund amount to aboub £900. The principal contributors and the amounts are as follows : — Mr Robert Glendining and the Union Steam Ship Company £100 each; Messrs Bing, Harris, and Co., Messrs Hallensteia Bros., and the Westport Coal Company, £50 each; Sir H. J. Miller, Messrs Neill and Co., and Mr H. E. Shacklock, £25 each ; Hon. T. Fergus, Mr Keith Ramsay, Mr Thomas Brown, Mr D. E. Theomin, Mr William B. Tigers, Mr John Mill, Messrs A. and T. Inglis, Messrs A. S. Paterson and Co.. Messrs Herbert, Haynes, and Co., and Messrs Mackerras and I.azlett, £20 each; Mr Thomas Oallender, Mr William Patrick, and Mr James Rattray, £10 10<* each: Mr Alexander Thomson' £10; Bishop Nevill, Mr A.
