DESTINY.

We are bound with iron chains — Iron chains of circumstance — Dragg'd at the heels of remorseless Fate, To the tune he plays, Through all our day 3, Perforce we ha/c to dance. Thropgh the thorniest tracks he leads — O'er the bleak, rough, barren hills, And when we would rest at the Fount of Joy He tug 3at our chain, And we must dram The cup for us he fills. That cup he brines with tearc — Salt as the lone Dead Sea — That poison the ruddy springs of life, And fill our veins With the griefs— the pains, That mark cur destiny. O, we arc captives — slaves! And our struggles and plots are vain ; The Master holds us in His iron grip, And writhe as we may On our weary way, We cannot break his chain! — H. J. B. March, 1901.
