PIRATES v. EXCELSIOR (GORE).

A team from the Excelsior Football Club (Oamaru) played n mixed team from the Pirates Club on Saturday morning at the Cansbrook ground. The local team were the heavier of the two, and played with a good deal more daeh and combination, winning the match by 24- points to nil. The visitors kicked off from the southern end, and caved with the sun in their eyes during the first spell. The game was chiefly contin ed to the forwards, and there was very little back play of any note except on the part of the Pirates once or twice. Tries were scored by Sparrow, Coventry. L. M'Donald, Miller (two), and Ir%vin Hislop placed three goals. Sparrow had the bad luck to get kicked on the back of the head, and had to retire from the game. The visitin a team played a dogged and hard game, but were outclassed all round. Mr F. Harris acted as referee to the satisfaction of both sides, and the game resulted as above mentioned : Pnates .. 24 points Excelsior _ ... Nil
