UNION v. LINWOOD.

The annual fixture between these two clubs took place en the Caledonian ground on Saturday, play commencing shortly before 2 o'clock. The weather was very warm, with a light wind from tho north-wer.t, and the ground was in perfect order. Theie was a fair a,ttcn'Janc3 of the public. The game calls for iittle description. It was pretty well a 6craiiible from start to finish. In the first spell the Union had the best of it, and in the second the contest was fairly even. The only score of the match was made in the first spell. The Alaroons' forwards started a strong rush, and, keeping the ball all the way, D. M/unro managed to get over the line with it. The kick' at goal was not what was desired. Half-way through the becond spell the Linwood pressed their opponents strongly. A good passing rush by the Union forwards worked the ball back, and for some time it remained near the Linwood line. Two free kicks, however, cleared the line,, and the visitors took the ball to tho other end. M 'Queen had a shot at goal from a free kick for the Union, but failed. Soon afterwards time was called, with the ball in Linwood ground. Final score : — Union 3 points Linwood ... Nil

Mr A. Downes made a satisfactory referee.

The Linwood representatives showed some fine passing play. The Union were weak in thiE respect at the start, but in the second spell their play was much better. The Union forwards were good in the open rushes. The other departments of the game do not need to be mentioned.

Shortly after the start Howell (Linwood) and Low (Union) to retire, ihe former having his elbow sprained and the latter his ankle.
