Ferryman was first into the straight, but Wakeful caught him opposite the St. Leger stand, and, clearing from the field, the pair fought out the fii ish, Wakeful winning by a half length. The race was fast. and the New Zcalander showed special brilliancy." At last night's leading of the card on tho Sydney Cup considerable business was done. Wakeful was barked for £1200 at 3 to 1, and left off at sto 2 offered. A couple of hundreds were taken about La Carabine at H's. Seveiity was not in demand, but Clean Sweep was a =tiong order. Over £3000 was wageied at 7 to 1. He then shortened a point. Gunga Din \va» backed to win £3000 at 10's and a point shorter. San Fran was in request at 10's to the extent of £3000, leaving off at Bto 1. Robato was backed for £5000 at 100 to 6.

Advance's victory was most popular. The cheering commenced as the hoise passed the po?t, and was renewed when he returned to scale. It was takpn up again when the rider (Jenkins) weiglird in. There wa^ not the semblance of a fluke about the win. The lace was run to ■mit La Carabine, who obtained a considerable advantage from a friendly opening made for her at. the home turn. Word has been received from New Zealand that the owner of Advance has quoted a price to Sir Rupert Clarke for the horse. Th? figures are withheld, and Sir Rupert's intentions are at present unknown.
