ROXBRUGH.

Apul B—Summer8 — Summer is almost past, the fading leaves, with then- diffeicit hues, affording us another phase of beauty, ?nd foreshadowing the approach of winter. This has been a bu«y fruit season, but it is now practically over, and clean-lrg-up and preparing for another season has begun. A great future is in store for this district m hurt growing. What is required is a railway into it, which, by the way, I am informed has been started. w e have been trusting so long to having this hue built that we aie not so sure about it, and rumour has it that side issues are already at work to try to deviate the course of the line. The people of the district should be awake to this fact

Bunny. — The rabbit trade is becoming a great industry throughout the country, and I am sfraid m many cases rabbit-farmmg is.practically encouraged. Numbers of horses and " traps are engaged running rabbits to the freezer from this district, and all seem to be well laden. Todd Brothers and Co. do a large share of business here, as do also Messrs Tonkin and Co. Buildings. — Roxburgh will soon boast of some good buildings. Mrs Herron is progressing well with her hotel, and Dr Mullm is erecting a residence m Scotland street, at the north end of the town, which will much improve that part. The borough council also intend to improve the main street with a little gravel. Our borough yields comparatively small revenue, consequently very little can be effected in street improvements. Church Matters.— The Rev. Mr Joughin has left the Roxburgh charge and gone to resume duties at Rangiora, near Christchurch. The Rev. Mr Ryan, from the Cromwell Wesleyan body, takes his place. An enjoyable evening was spent on the 2nd mst., a presentation in the shape of a silver tea. set being made to Mi Joughhn, who suitably replied. Several short speeches were given, and songs, solos, and some pleasant renderings from the Wesleyan choir under Mr Bennett's conducting, rendered the affair very enjoyable.
