HUMANE SOCIETY AWARDS.
CHRISTCHURCH, March 21. At a meeting of the Court of Director* of the Royal Humane Society of New Zealand to-day silver medals were awarded to William Hammond, for rescuing Lilian Burns from drowning in the Rangitilcei River on October 1, 1900; to Patrick Nolan, for rescuing three men from drowning at Bruce Bay on March 14, 1900 ; and' to W. J. Miller, for rescuing Bessie Scotu from drowning at AVanganui on October 3. 1900. Bronze medals were awarded to Mamae Rangitahua and It a Pakeha, twoMaori girls, for rescuing Rikeranga Osborn from drowning at AVanganui on November 26, 1900. George Dunn and Pati ick M'Caffery were granted first class certificates for reselling Richard Robertson froire an exploding blast at Wai-o-Waha on December 21, 1899. H. C. Carlyle was ' awarded a certificate for rescuing Frank Haydon from being run over at Christchurch on November 15, 1900. A memoriam certificate was directed to be sent to the next of kin of A. K. W. Watts, who was drowned at Wanganui on October 3, 1900, in an attempt to rescue Bessie Scott from drowning. Letters of commendation were directed to be sent to A. F: Field for rescuing AY. Jacob from drowningat Wellington on December 30, 1899 ; to William Harper and Duncan Johnston, for attempting to rescue M. Laurenson" from, drowning at Parson's Rocks, Charleston, on July 12, 1900; Cecil Dixon, for -rescuing H. Reardon from- drowning at Mastertoa on October 19, 1900 ; James Knowles, for rescuing Mary Myhill from drowning afc Napier on January 2, ; W. Olliver and J. E. Lund, for rescuing T. Barlow front drowning at Devonport on November 8, 1900; W. C. L. Brice, for rescuing Katie Collins from drowning at Lyttelton oa January 5, 1901 ; Rupert Rich, for rescuing a boy from drowning at Lyttelion * December 22, 1900.
