GOLF.

Our Wellington correspondent states that the golf season was opened in Wellington on Saturday, when there was a very large attendance of members. A mixed foursome, for •which Mrs H. D. Bell gave prizes, was won by Mr George Todd (formerly of Dunedin) and Mr Ritchie (one of the lecturers at Victoria College). They came in with the very fine score of five up on bogey. The club is receiving large accessions to its ranks. Twenty-five new members have joined this month. The new clubhouse is a decided acquisition to the links. Amongst the visitors on Saturday afternoon were Mr Justice Denniston, of Christchurch, and the captain and officers of H.M.S. Tauranga. OTAGO GOLF CLUB. There was a large attendance at the Otago Golf links, Balmacewan, on Anniversary Day, ■when the second round for the championship •was played off. The weather, which at first looked threatening, turned out fine, though j somewhat breezy in the afternoon. A consider- , able number played both morning and after- j noon, having lunch at the club house, where ; a most enjoyable meal had been provided by the caretaker. Reid, 7 and 6; Dr Burt "beat F. W. Maclean, 6 and 5 ; G. Winslow beat G. N. Maclean, 6 and 4,; J. H. Hosking beat C. Hoidsworth,. 7 and. 6;. G. H. MacEwan v. A, Salmon, a bye ; E. S. Paterson beat J. A. Cook, 7 and 6; A. Todd beat T. Gilray, jim., 4 and 3 ; H. Price beat J. L. S almond, 5 and 4 ; A. H. Fisher beat A. Holmes, 4 and 3. Dr Brown has to play H. D. Stronach in this Tound. The following is the arrangement for the third Tound : — S. Todd. plays J. Macphsrson ; C. Tturnbull plays W. C. MacGregor; Dr Burt plays S. Winslow; J. H. Hoskvng plays J. R. Scott; G. H.
