SALE OF THOROUGHBRED STOCK.
NAPIER. March 22.
All important sale of thoroughbred stock took place to-day at Hastings. The Te Mahanga yearlings were first offered, pnd attracted buyers from all parts of the colony. Fair prices were given for most of the stock, though in most cases the animals went well within their value, and in some instances agents. 'Acting on behalf- of- outside buyer?, secured yearlings at much below the limit to which they weTe prepared to go. A very fine filly by Mahaki — Melinite topped the sale, and went to Mr J. T. Moore, Kai-iwi, Wanganui, at 165 guineas. There was brisk competition for Tortulla's full-brother, who brought 150 guineas, and Penrose, Bush Ro3es full-brother, whose price was 120 guinea*. Some racing stock belonging to Mr E. J. Watt wae then put up. but-the-best at them ■ — Indian Queen and St. Mark — failed to reach the owner's reserve, and were passed in. A number of yearlinjcs and two-year-olds from Mr S. H. Gollan's Mangatarata stud brought fair prices, though some of the lots were withdrawn, owing to the animals not having re-
