THE COAL MINtS COMMISSION (From Our Own Correspondent.)
GREYMOUTH. February 27. Before the Coal Miues Commission, sitting at Brunner, to-day, Frank Wills stated that after the Wallsend colliery was closed, but prior to the removal of the machinery, he had an interview with the management of the Westport Coal Company with the object of buying the Wallsend mine. The first stipulation laid down was that in the event of the negotiations being successful he (the purchaser) must undertake to find a market for the coal outside the colony. This extraordinary stipulation at once terminate^ the negotiations. This evidence caused a great deal of comment, and will be brought before the Government without delay. Mr Taylor, the present owner, is now on his way to Auckland to arrange for the opening of the mine.
