VISITING DOT.

A Three^act Drama (by Dum Dum). Dramatis Persona^: Regina, Echo, Alvera, St. Clainte, Sea Nymph, and Harry. Act I.— Scene: Manse street, Dunedm.

Echo: Here come two D. L. F.; let's speak to them. Alvera: Yes; hullo, D. L. F. St. Clairite: Hullo, you're Echo and Alvera, are you not? We are St. Clairite and Sea Nymph. _ , „ Sea Nymph : Have you been to see Dot yen t Echo: No; have you? St. Clairite: No; we're too scared; but we really must go and see her. Sea Nymph : But you sad that months ago. St. Qainte: Well, we must go this time. Echo: Here comes Harry with a girl D. L. F. Alvera: I wonder who she is. Harry: Good afternoon, D. L. F.; allow me to introduce Regina to you. (Does so.) Regina: Harry was suggesting that I should pay Dot a visit. St. Clairite: That's just what we're thinking of doing. Echo: We had better all go together; but when shall we go? Harry: I think you will find Dot in if you call about 11.30 to-morrow morning. In the meantime I must go to work, so good-bye just now. (Exit Harry.) All: Good-bye. Harry (to himself): Stunning girl, that Regina ; wonder how old she is ? St. Clairite: It will be horrid going in to Dot at first. Echo: She won't bite. Alvera: We had better all meet at the D.I.C. at 11 o'clock to-morrow morning. Remainder: Yes, that will do grand. (Exit Sea Nymph and St. Clairite to St. Clair tram. E., A., and R. go up High street, and discuss what they will wear on the important occasion.) Echo: I shall wear all white, with my red tie and straw hat.

Alvera: I think I look best in my white muslin blouse and dark blue skirt. I shall wear my sailor hat trimmed with pink chiffon and purple roses and my green tie. Regina : And we must not forget to wear our badges. Echo: Oh, no; that would be too awful. (Exit all.)

Act II. — Scene: Outside Witness office next

morning. Regina: I wish the others would hurry up; this suspense is awful; oh, here they come. (Dances a mazurka and drops umbrella in gutter.) E., A., St. C, and S. N. : Here we are, Regina'; you should have met us at the D.1.C., as we arranged. Regina (blushing) : Well, I met Harry, and— and I came down with him. Sea Nymph: Oh, that's it, is it? ' Echo: Well, here we are, and what do you think? — none of us have brought our badges.

Regina: Oh! I've forgotten mine, too. St. Clairite: Oh! and I've got a big hole in my right-hand glove. Sea Nymph: ¥ou can wear one and hold the other. Alvera: Is my hat on straight? (All ask a question of each other.) Echo: Well, we can't stay here all day.

Regina: I wish Harry was here. Sea Nymph: Oh! give him a rest. Echo: Anyhow, he could take us in, if he •were here. St. Clairite: Who's going in first? Remainder (in one voice) : I'm not. St. Clairite: Well, we had better all go in at the same time.

Echo: Yes; good idea. (Combined rush into Witness office, where all stand white and silent.) Clerk : What can Ido for you, young ladies ? Regina (poking Alvera) : You speak. Alvera (doing ditto to Echo) : No ; you. Clerk : Excuse me, ladies, but I'm in a hurry. Echo: Please, sir, II — we— can you— will — is Dot in? Clerk: Yes. (Addressing boy): Show these young ladies over the building, and then take them "to Dot's room. Boy: Yes, sir. (Bowing politely): Step this way, please, and please look out for the ink and wet paint. (Exit girls and boy.) Clerk: Pretty lot of girls, those. Clerk No. 2 : By jove, yes. Act lll.— Scene: Outside Witness office, 20 minutes afterwards. Echo: Isn't Dot nice? Remainder: Yes. St. Clairite: B,ut I'm sure she noticed the hole in my glove. Regina: And I took my dirty umbrella into her room.

Sea Nymph : And what a nice little boy that was. _ _

Alvera: Struck already? Sea Nymph : Be quiet. Eegina: It's getting late; we must be going Lome. Echo: Here comes Harry. All: Good-bye, Eegina. (Leave her.) Alvera: It wasn't so bad, after all, was it?

Echo: No. St. Clairite: I can't understand how anyone can be scared to go to see Dot. Remainder : No E. and A.: Good-bye, Sea Nymph and St. Clairite. , . St. Clairite and Sea Nymph: Good-bye, Echo and Alvera. (Exit.) (Curtain.)
