Notes from Central Otago. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

ALEXANDRA, December 31.— Dredging has been very slack on account of the festive season, and news is scanty. Only two local returns were reported on Saturday — from the Perseverance and Golden Beach dredges, which each got over 28oz for four days' and three days four hours' dredging respectively. The Olrig dredge washed up on Monday last for 14oz 3dwt, and is now stopped for the holidays.

Some repairs are being executed on the Eureka and Molyneux Hydraulic dredges.

The New Alexandra dredge was working most of last week, and I think the Manuhenkia dredge has also been working the greater part of the week — except the holidays. The contractor has resumed the carting of the machinery for the Boundary Creek Company's dredge. The boiler was delivered some time ago, and from now on there will be regular deliveries. The boiler for the Halfway House Company's dredge was delivered last week. Two loads of machinery for the Fraser Flat dredge came to 'hand on Saturday. More machinery has come to hand for the Monte Chnsto and Cairnmuir dredges, and also the Bald Hill Flat Freehold Company's dredge. There has been a good deal of rain lately, but it has notr affected the Molyneux, though the Manuherikia Kiver seems to have more water in it to-day than usual.
