The prizes were presented on the stage to the bands and soloists by the president of the exhibition, Mr Allan. The following are the complete scoref of the bandb for their own selection and the test selection in the order of aggregate merit: —

Wellington takes Besson's cornet for tha highest aggregate in the two selections and the quickstep contest. The prizes are:—First, £100, 25 gold medals, silver-mounted baton and metronome for conductor ; second, £60 and ivory* baton ; third, £25; fourth, £15 ; fifth. Boo?ey and Co.'s presentation cornet, valued at £21. In the solo contests gold and silver medals are given to the first and second respectively. In announcing his awards on Friday, Mi; Wallace said :—": —" The evenness of the performances he had lislened to had been simply marvellous, and it had been very hard for hint to classify them. There had been many excellent performances in the quartets. His notes told him that the "Wellington Gairison No. 2 quartet was first, having scored 175 points out of a possible 200. The Port Chalmers Navals were second, with 158. The euphoniums had been almost a greater tax upon hia judgment than the quartets, so even had they been. E Smith, of the North-East Valley, was first, also with 175 points out of a possible 200. and J. O'Brien, of Dunedin Navals, second, with 170. But the greatesi tax of all had been the judging of the B rial cornets He had never dreamt that so many fine performers on that instrument existod in the colony. Before announcing his decision, he wished to refer specially to the playei ', whom he had nlaoed third (T. WConAell, Port Chalmers Navals). He had given a mar- \ vellous display of execution, but he was no< satisfied with the piece selected as a musica! composition. He would advice the performei

to go in for something more melodiou3, and better suited to show and develop his tone and phrasing. The arrangement of the ' Carnival de Venise ' which he had played had been excellent fireworks, but he was sorry h« had not chosen something better."

This season's peach crop in Havrke's Bay i: an absolute failure.
