The weather was magnificent for the second day of the agricultural show, when the attendance was very large. The Hon. Mr Duncan, Minister of- Agriculture, formally opened the show, congratulating the district on its excellence. He spoke of the
district possessing exceptional advantages,
and alluded to the prospects of advancement \ !mow that the Midland railway area was to \hc settled. Great interest was taken to-day An the driving, riding, and jumping congests, and everything passed off satisfactorily. 1 - Mr Joshua Bird, chairman of the Waimea County Council for the last 16 years, died suddenly on Thursday, aged 71 years. He .■presided at the meeting of the council on (Wednesday, and was a candidate for reelection as chairman, but was defeated by Cr Wastney.
