CLEAN SWEEP'S GUP.

(By " Pretender," in Melbourne Sportsmar..)

Did you ever hear tell of a cleaner sweep Than the sweep we've had to-day? For we came on the ground With many a pound, But it all got swept away. I've never heard tell of a desent sweep Tho' I've travelled miles and miles. No, I'll give 'em the cake, For they're all on the mate, Tho' they work in different styles. For a common old sweep goes tip ,the flue, And he brings the rubbish down. Yes, he'll climb to ilie skiee, With the sooi in his eyes, For a "bob" or half-a-erown. ' Thenhe'll pack up his kit in a brace o' shakes. : And he'll whistle a lively air; For he's finished the job, And you've paid himjiis "bob," And the thing's all fair and square. But the Ballarat Sweep is a different Sweep,, In every way you choose. He's as good at his trade As ever -was made, But he never goes up the flues. He wouldn't waste time with your tinkering " jobs, And he wouldn't stand messin' about; You must leave him alone, Let him run on his own, ; Or it's you that'll go "up the spoilt." For the son of Benzine can sweep you as I clean I As the ocean sweeps the rocks. ! He cleaned out our "kicks " j In a couple of ticks, I And left us our boots and socks. I've never yet seen a Sweep hall as Clean, And I don't think ever I can. I For he left us as bare As the leg of a chair, Or a bloomin' old bald-headed man.
