HINDON.
December 3. — On Monday last a most enjoyable concert was tendered by the friends and pupils of Hindon School m the schoolroom. The chairman opened proceedings in a few pithy remarks, after which the programme, which was of such length that encores had to be positively refused, was commenced by a spiritedly-executed march by Miss M. Harrison, followed by songs by Misses L. Harrison and Jarvis, and Messrs Stewart and M'Kay. Little Miss Gridgeman's effort, " Red, white, and blue, ' in costume, was worthy of very special mention. Recitations were given by Misses Mitchell, Ganett, and Jarvis, while the recitation "When I'm a man " was equally successful. Misses L. and M. Harrison sang a couple of duets, and last, but. by no means least, the action songs by the children were rendered in s\ich style as to reflect great Credit upon themselves and their painstaking coach, Miss L. Harrison. An interval of a few minutes divided the programme, during which the children indulged freely in ginger beer, cakes, noise, etc., chiefly the latter, to such an extent that the opening of the second part,
" Beautiful star," action song, by the children, -came from full hearts — or stomachs; pretty much the same thing in this case. At the closa of the concert the chairman called for a vote of thanks to the performers who had done so touch towards giving them a most pleasurable I time, which was heartily responded to. A vote of thanks to the chairmon brought the proceedings to a close. A dance followed, and the young folk " chased the hours with, flying feet " till 4 in the morning, after which they dispersed tired, but happy. — Occasional correspondent.
