Notes from Wakatipu. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

ARROWTOWN, November 30.— The fierce lieat of a few days past made an impression upon the newly-fallen snow, -which did not get the benefit of the winter's frost. The consequence was that on Tuesday last -the river xosa to flood level. Thetfudden thaw is sure -to affect both the JKavarau and the Molyneux to no smaTr" exTent. The Meg and Annie is doing exceedingly good work considering the way the Jla-warau is Seeping up. Although the high state of the liver must ba an annoyance, it has the compensating conviction that there is no difficulty m working the upper portion of the Kawarau, about which there was so much controversy. -The Merrimac dredge, Kawarau, is hampered much by the depth of the ground, exceeding 40ft, which, as a matter of course, is added to Ly the flooded state of the river. At Cardrona 'dredging will soon be the leading feature for the time, with the bigger things in the future. • The great width ot the. valley makes prospecting with a dredge slow work. But it may be expected lhat TacOn's Cardrona Company's dredge will make favourable ..developments shortly after starting work. The Rolling Stone dredge is m full going order, and though the owners keep quiet about the returns there are reasons to believe them to be encouraging. Speaking ot this dredge, it may be mentioned that the claim for damages preferred Toy Mr J. Robinson, who lost his right arm vvnile attending to the machinery, will be heard at Arrowtowii on December 11.
