TABLE TALK.
Monday Afternoon. A large and successful ball was given on Fri. day evening by Mr and Mrs J. M. Ritehifl at "Balvraid," their residenoe in Heriot Row. Everything passed off most successfully, and dancing was carried on with great spirit until nearly 3in the morning. Between 200 and; 300 people must have been present, but the hostess had everything so admirably arranged 1 , that except ior the first ten minutes in the reception room ample room-was found for. all, so many were the rooms prepared for the guests. Mr and Mrs Ritchie received the guests in the drawing-room, and the dancers soon, found their way to the large billiard-room and dining-room, which had been thrown into one, and made an excelleiv ballroom. Passing through the dancing room was another room, in which ices and tea and coffc were served during the evening, and shortly before midnight the supper room was thrown, operand everyone indulged in a regular sil down supper. All the rooms, were decorated with trailing greenery and charming flowers. The long verandah leading from the drawingroom had been enclosed and furnished with, rugs and arm chairs, and as it runs past the ballroom windows, it made a delightful resort for the chaperones, who were thus 'able to watch the dancers. The floor was perfect, and Messrs Yates supplied the muFic, which was excellent, and Miss Webster, Miss Mendelson (Temuka), and Mrs Beswick (Christchurch) kindly supplied the extras. * Amongst those present were Dr and Mrs _ Davies, the Misses Mendelson (Temuka), Di* and Mrs Colquhoun, Dr and Mrs Lindo Ferguson, Mr and Mrs Woodhouse, Mr and Mrs Melland, Mr and Mrs Murray, Mrs Sise,Mr and Mrs Denniston, Mr and Mrs Petre^Mrs Hart, Mr and Mrs Butterworth, Mr and Mrs C. Miss Kate Rattray returned from Wellington last "weekr, *and ofl Wednesday the golf players gave a tea in her honour at the links, thus giving them all an opportunity of con-~ gratulating her on her success in' bringing back the ladies' champion cup for a third time to' Dunedin. . • - | Mjss-Nevill entertained a number of girls at afternoon tea last Wednesday at "her uncle's residence in Woodhaugh. In St. Mary's Church, New Plymouth, on November 3X3 X Miss Mabel Stanford, daughter I
of Mr R. L. Stanford, S.M., New Plymouth, was quietly married to Mr Frank Russell, son of Colonel Russell, England. The church was prettily decorated, and the ceremony wa& performed by the Yen. Archdeacon Govettj assisted by the Rev. F. Evans. The bride looked charming in a handsome satin gown, with transparent yoke and sleeves, and trimmed with pearl passementerie. She wore the customary veil and x^al orange blossoms, and carried a lovely bouquet of maidenhair and orange blossoms. The bridesmaids were three in number — Miss Stanford and Miss Gerty Stanford (sisters of the bride), and Miss Standish (cousin of the bridegroom). They wore pretty dresses of silver grey voile, with white chiffon fichus and pink collars, and black and white chiffon hals with pink roses.
