Messrs E. C. Robinson, W. O. Beere, and J. "V. Haekell have been granted certificate* of competency as duly authorised surveyors. The Public Trustee is taking steps to acquire, under the Unclaimed Lands Act, a section at Queenstown, now in. the occupation of Mrs .Jane M'Bride.
A fierce thunderstorm, with forked, lightning, heavy claps of thunder, and a tropical downpour of rain and hail, .passed over Nelson on Saturday afternoon. The air was almost as dark as -at dusk. Taihape'is a place on the Central line North Island. Trunk railway. 'Five^years ago" the whole district was uninhabited bush.' There is a wondrous change now. It is a flourishing township, 'me other day £150 was refused for a quarter-acre section.
