The Matau has been running on the Mj'yneux, carrying cargo between Kaitangata end the Beaumont for about 20 yeais. The last run was a most exciting one. When ust below Tuapeka Mouth on her return journey, after delivering a cargo of timber for Lioness Dredge, she was carried along' on tue rushing, swirling torrent of the flooded river and thrown upon a sunken reef, sustaining considerable damage. Captain Butler and his crew with great skill and plucky determination managed, however, to extricate her from her perilous position and bring her safely to shore.
