According to a correspondent of tb.e local paper, there was some talk of prospecting the upper end oi this company's claim with boring rods, also of turning the river; but nothing definite has been decided oa. Tlie Mamiherikia River was in flood last week, and was very high., particularly in the beginning of the week. The hull of the G-p.ltee More dredge (dismantled some months ago) sank at her moorings. The Nil Oesperandum dredge still lies stranded on the beach. The Moa dredge has dropped down to the lower end of Frenchman's Beach, and has been working since Wednesday evening. The Oliig dredge is now opening out along the Jower botiadary of her claim towards the Galloway side. The New Alexandra, dredge, I understand, has been shut down, pending the decision of a, meeting of shareholders to be held shortly. The Slondyke dredge has also been, slmt down, for the past 10 days or so, and the position of the company will be considered at an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders oa the 27th inst. The Manuherikia dredge is working steadily, but, I hear, is putting through a. lot of ground worked by the old dieclge. Sotne of the directors visited the claim and dredge on Saturday. ' The Sailor's Bend dredge has beea taken down to the bottom end of her claim. The Golden Link dredge has been completed. except for tome steam pipes, and will soon be in full swing. An error was made where it was stated that; the Bendigo pontoons were being planked. The flaming is up, but, so far as I can see, there is no planking forward. Progress is being made with the Leaning Rock Company's pontoons. A joint meeting of the directors of- the Cairnmuir and Monte Christo Companies was held at Clyde on Saturday to consider the question. of the erection of the machinery. The Kelly and Casey pontoons will be finished this week. The machinery for the Monte Christo dredge is coming to hand regularly. I understand that the Vincent dredge will not be working till the river is lower. A start has not yet been made to fit up tha machinery on the Halfway House dredge, though there is a good deal of it to hand. The Miller's Flat Electric and Majestic Companies' dredges are expected to make a start next week. The Golclen Bed is also on the point of completion. She will commence work opposite the JEttrick township. The Gold Queen dredge has bee^n shifted down the river to shallower ground. The Golden Gate dredge is working satisfactorily. -, Slow progress is being made with the fitting up of the machinery on the G-olden Run dredge. The erection of the machinery on the Moa Flat Company's dredge is to be commenced this week. It is nearly all delivered. The machinery is coming to hand for the Endeavoui Company's dredge, the pontoons of which are finished. A quantity of timber has arrived for the Golcl King Company's pontoons. The Coal Creek pontoons are almost finished. The Long Valley pontoons are being planked, and the upper framework of the Golden Elbow pontoons is nearly finished. The Molyneux River is keeping pretty steacVj; at about Ggft above normal. — The coral roads of Bermuda are the finest in the world for cycling. — In- Norway and Sweden, before any «ouplo can leg-ally be married, certificates must be procured showing that both bride and f*xiA*xna(a& J»»y,<i been duly vacoinatad.
