SOUTHLAND LAND BOARD.
The meeting held on Thursday, 22nd November, was attended by Messrs D. Barron (chief commissioner), A. Kinross, J. M'lntyre, D. King, and A. Baldey. Messrs Cullen and Caldwell, on behalf of a-! number of settlers, waited on the board and : objected to M'Callum and Co. being allowed to ! cut timber on a reserve in block XI, Oterarnika. Mr Cullen said he had paid for a license, and was getting a road line made to. cart out fencing material.— Held over for inspection and report by Mr Kinross and the ranger. King Bros, wrote stating that they are agree- . able to a road being taken through section 21, Waiau, provided the proposed road be fenced on both sides at the expense of the Land department. A similar letter in regard to section 17 was received from Mr A. M'Kaughton. j — Eesolved that under the conditions -stated j the board cannot Recommend the construction i of the road. • ' j James King applied to purchase section 16, I block • I, Lilburn, an island in Waiau River, j held bj him on a grazing license. — Govern- ; ment to be recommended to offer the land on the optional system. j In regard to the Subdivision of a, reserve around Eastern Bush, J. H. Russell forwarded a petition from residents requesting that the ', reservation be not taken ofi the bush, as they are wholly dependent upon it for fuel. — Held, ovei. H. Hirst wrote requesting that the price of the proposed church site at Hirstfield be fixed, the warden having granted permission to acquire an acre. — Writer to be asked to 'deposit survey fee, and the section will be surveyed and price, fixed. Mr J. L. M'G. Watson, on behalf of H. Keenan, applied for grazing license over section 1, block XVIII, Longwood district. — Held over. John Daley wrote accepting year to year lease of sections in block VI, Waimatuku township, and asked permission to take one crop off and
then lay down in grass. — To b j informed that the grazing license must stand for the year for which the rent is pr.id. Thomas Simon offered £20 for all timber on sections 2, 3, 4 and 5, block XXIV, Invercargill hundred. — Granted at 7s per acre, provided all the front sections cut out be abandoned. Wm. Petrie's application lor section 4, block VIII, Fernhill village, and J. J. Ryan's for section 12, block 111, Seaward ±$ush, were granted. Titles for land were granted^as follows : — ■ James Millar, section 180 a, Forest Hill hundred; Robert Couplancl, sections 82 and 86, block VII, Invercargill hundred; M. *M. Small, section 2, block XVI, Lougwood ; C Burbury, section 2, block V, Makarewa; Isabella Muir, section 12, block VII, Mokoreta; J. Carrolls, sections 9 and 10, block XIII, Wallacetown, and Mrs M. H. D. Trumble, section 1, block X, Waikawa.
