The mail from • Dunedin and th<i north" arrived at Ihvereargill on tin 20th inst. in ' a state of pulp, the carl in whicli it was being conveyed bj r road between the sluck-up trains in. the Taier"' being capsized at a place where the road was covered by five feet of water. Some Christmas numbers of northern papers suf' fered badly. * On the 20th inst. the dedication of ' 3 flagstaff , and "- bunting ""Tiook placo at the Park School, Invercargill,-,' on the border of the town. . The staff wa\' provided by ex-pupils and the flags by friends of .the school. His Excellency ths Governor, who was in town, -willingly consenied to take part in the ceremony, and delivered an interesting address, beinix followed by the Hons. J. G. Ward and H Feldwick and Dr Smyth..
