November 12.— The weather continues showery, with' high winds. Shearing is -now under way. Mr Heckler, of Mount JL J leasant, having started on Tuesday. Several of the farmers, too, are busy; but the broken weather precludes big tallies. .Race Club. — The club held a meeting the other evening, when "it was decided to issue the programme, and, the Colonial Secretary permitting, io hold the races as usual on Ist January, 1901. The club's programme is, as usual, a good one, including eight events, witih a total sum in added money of over £200. The officers of the club remain practically as last year, and if the permit is granted the club ought to hold a very fair day's sport. November 19. — The weather has been simply abominable lately. All last week the changes were rung on, wind and rain, culminating in. a flood, on Saturday. Rain set in before midnight on Friday, and continued heavily 'until Sunday mornijig. All the low-lying land was flooded, and the water in the lagoon rose about ' 2ft. On Saturday night or Sunday -morning the water washed away the lower flood gate at . the motith of the lagoon, bringing down the new. windmill lately erected by the 'Domain Board. Fortunately the mill must have heeled over gently, as with the exception of the guides, '' wooden shaft, and a couple of castings broken, very little damage was^done. A lot of "the tower steel w>'irk is bent, but inpst of it can be readily straightened. The water is now subsiding fast, and the place beginning i resume its normal appearance. -• ' Cricket Club. — The annual meeting of the club was held in the leading loom, Mr JPmder piesiding, and a fair number being -present. The report and balance sheet, showing a fair balance in hand, were read and adopted; and the following officers appointed: President, Mi B. Bray; vice-presidents, Rev. C. A. Fraer, Messrs E. Davis, P. Toomey, and P. Rogers ; captain- . Mr Pinder ; deputy captain, Mr P. E. Wilson ; tieasurer, Mr M. Jamieson; secretary, Mr D. Maloch ; committee — Messrs •J. Bradley, W . Hood, R. Nelrnes, and H. Townsend. The subscription was fixed at 5s foi seniors and 2s 6d for" juniors; schoolboys being' allowed the use of pilch-and materials at Is 6tl. The opening 1 day was fixed/for Wednesday, the 21st. Rifle Club. — The annual meeting of the Rifle Club was held in the Fleece dining room on Friday night! a good number of members being present. The report and balance sheet, show- ' ing a credit balance of £9 3s 4d, were read and adopted, and 'the following officers were re-elec-ted : President, •Mi- P. Toomey ; vice-president, Mr B.'Bray; captain, Mr N. Stewart; deputycaptain, Mr J. Cameion; secretttry, Mr D. Malloch. A good deal of business was put through, and in the course of tht evening some talk was indulged in re the class of rifle at present used by the club. The club hope to obtain superior rifles in the neai future, when some shooting matches will be arranged with various volunteer corps, which is now impossible, owing to the inferioi arm "with which the club is supplied.
