November 17. — The- weather has been very unsettled of late. Cold winds accompanied by frequent showers of rain and hail, have been , our lot -almost every day for the last fortnight. , - , Sports. — The Athletic Club held their annual sports on the Recreation Reserve on the 9th. The day was fin'e^oad there was a good-attend-ance -of- the public. Each of- the events was keenly contested. The local brass" band was* in attendance, and discoursed excellent music during the day. The success of the sports was mainly due to Mr D. Raymond, the genial secretary pi the club, and an energetic staff of ofacials, who were untiring in their efforts to carry out the proceedings to the satisfaction of every one. Obituary. — Great sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs G-. Crosbie, of Glenrose, who have lost by death two stalwart sons during the past fortnight. On the 2nd of November their third son, William, succumbed to an attack of rheumatic fever, at his residence, Elgin Park, Edendale. Deceased leaves a widow and three young children to mourn their loss, for whom the greatest sympathy is felt in then sad bereavement. Ten. days later James, the foiprth son of Mr and Mrs Crosbie, passed away at Dunedin. Dysentery is supposed to have been "the trouble. Flower Show. — It seems we are to have a flower show this year after all. A special meeting was called on the 12th to Tescind a former resolution not to hold the show this season. The meeting was well attended, and resulted in a resolution to hold the show about the usual time. School Excursion. — The annual school excursion is arranged for Tuesday, the 27th inst. Bluff is the destination chosen, and I am sure the "excursion will be taken advantage of by a great number of adtdts as well as children. Police- Court. — The Police Court was crowded on Wednesday morning , last, when Charles Arnett, of Mataura. was brought "before fhe local J.P.s on the 'double charge Df theft' and attempted murdei of three, men at Edendale on the 29th ult. * Accused's counsel not being able to attend, accused was remanded to Wednesday 21st inst; .
