'He was a liard-workrng man,' and was- jioit im a_ position •to, pay a Heavy fine,', and if such were-jnflicted 'he would be. forced, to go to gaol. , ' His Worship, in giving judgment',, said, that ' lie had to enforce' the law'aocoiding to.- his- own 1 discretion, and- if persons would break the- law in this manner, 'in spite of- the heavy fines inflicted on other p.ersons previously, they y must stand the consequences. Defendant would be fined £ 30 and costs. Mr Paterson applied for a" term of three months wherein to pay the fine, but Sergeant King objected. 'Ultimately his Worship, allowed one month wherein- to- pay half • tHe "fine,and if necessary Mr Paterson might then apply for an extension for the balance. *■
