•The directors, in submitting the balance sheet $i>r the period ending 31st October, report: — '"When youi directors assumed office, steps
■« ere at once taken to procure a suitable dredge. Mr F.""W. Payne was appointed engineer, and instructed to prepare plans and specifications. Contracts were let for pontoons to Messrs W. Baskett and Son ; for machinery and erection to the Dunedin Foundry and Engineering Company (Limited); engine and boiler, ropes, boat, etc., were also ordered; and all contracts a)o completed, with the exception of that of the Dunedin Foundry a\id Engineering Company. The latter contract was delayed through a change in the firm, and although this delay at one time looked serious, directors are now assured that the dredge will be completed not much beyoiid contract time, the contractors having promised to hurry on the work. Sharcholdeis will see from the balance sheet that contracts are in excess of capital, and they will be asked to consider the of increase of capital."
