Notes from Reefton. (From Our Own Correspondent.)
REEFTON, November 19. The Buller dredge is at present opening out a new paddock. The work of launching the Mokoia- dredge is placed in the hands of Messrs Cutten Bros. The Consolidated dredge has resumed work and improved returns aie expected. The Buller Junction diedge is now neaiing completion, and should be ready to start work in about four weeks' time. The Roeklands dredge is also nearly completed, and should be working this side of Christmas. The Old Diggings Company are getting plans prepaied by Mesrs Cutten Bros, for a dredge to work the claim, which is expected to yield handsome returns. The Reeves Proprietary Company's dredge, which was fitted up by Mr Scott, of Otago, in a highly creditable manner, is working in a dam, and the wash is of a very likely-looking nature. It will take Mr Scott at least three weeks to open out properly. At present he is not trying to bottom. Mr Ewing, of St. Bathans, reported veiy favourably on this claim. The mats are showing a little coarse gold. Fine gold cannot be seen, as it will be driven, into the mats by the water coming through ihc screen. The Four River Plain dredge has started work, but as it is at present working in the top end of the Buller dredge's ground, it is only dredging sufficiently cleep^ to enable the dredge to get up to its own 'claim. Gold is to ba seen on the blankets.
