COURT AN AY SHOW.
The annual show of the Coy.rtenay A. and P. Aspociation was held at Kirwee on Thursday last, when the attendance was well up to that of previous years, and but for the rain that fell during the forenoon, there would in. all probability have been a larger number present than at any former show. There were a few more entries than last year, and 'the show all round was an excellent one. The sheep section of the show was well up to, if not above, the standard of previous years. There were some really good Border Leicesters, and competition was keen between Messrs G. Seaton, J. A. Holmes; ancUA. Gunn. Representatives of the English Leicester flock of Messrs R. and J. Reid took all the prizes in their classes. Mr D. Mulholland was the principal exhibitor of Shropshires, and showed several nice quality sheep both in rams and ewes. The Southdowns, which were all entered by Mi Seaton, were uneven, and many of the ewes showed too much of the Shropshire type. Alessrs R. and J. Reid were the only exhibitors of Corriedales, for which they received full awards. Mr J. Gough was the principal exhibitor of fat sheep, mostly Down or Down cross wethers, and they were all of prime freezing quality. The fat lambs formed one of the best collections ever seen at a Canterbury show, both as regards quality and condition. Shropshire crosses predominated. T^e prizes were well divided among the exhibitors, Messrs G. Addington, A. M'Nae, and W. W. M'Clelland taking two firsts each. In shorthorn cattle there were a few good exhibits in the class for cows, and in Ayrshires Mr W. J. Jenkins showed pome very fair specimens of the breed. Mr W. Sheate exhibited some nice handy weight fat steers and heifers. Next to the sheep section the draught horses were Lhe best feature of the show, and they were an improvement on "former years. Mr A. G. Holmes' s Young Champion was placed over Mr G. Addington's Chatham in the entire class. There were some really good animals among both the brood and dry mares, Mr C. Storey winning in the former and Mr T. Kain in the latter class. Messrs C. Storey and A. Nelson showed some very fine geldings. There was fair competition in the carriage and harness classes, but in both these and in hackneys and hunters, there was a falling off as compared with other years. In hackneys and hunters Mr H. T. F. Carlyon was the principal, prize-taker. There were but small shows of pige, clogs, and poultry. In the dairy produce classes there was good competition, especially in butter, -and the classes open to farmers only. The quality of the produce was excellent, and in butter Miss Brown, of Kimberley, was the most successful exhibitor.
