NORTH ISLAND SHOWS.
AUCKLAND, November 16. In spite of occasional showers, there was a large attendance at the opening day of the Auckland agricultural show. The entries exceed those of any previous year, the total in all classes being 1419, and the average character of the exhibits is higher, a particularly satisfactory feature being the great improvement in fat cattle, dairy cattle, and freezing sheep. The following is a list of the championship awards — ■ Draught entire, W. Taylor's Ben More ; shorthorn bull, New Zealand Land Association's Duke of Manchester ; shorthorn cow, New Zealand Land Association's Id alia IV ; Jersey bull, <S. Day's Sailor Boy ; Jersey cow, F. Wright's Grisette ; polled Angus cow, Krone Estate's Vista ; Lincoln ram, James Wallace (Papatoetoe) $ Lincoln ewe, C. T. Barraball (Waiuku) ; Romney Marsh ram, Westwood Bros. (Mount Albert) ; Shropshire Down ram, (J. Day framaher'e) ; Shropshire Down ewe, F. W. Burnett, Walton ; Berkshire boar, H. and J. Binstead's Prince ; Berkshire sow, Edwin H. Kelly (Papatoetoe) ; Yorkshire sow, S. Nicholl'.s Snowdrift. WANGANUI; November 16. Entries for the Warganui A. and P. show next Thursday are more than double last year's, and those of horses, poultry, and dogs constitute a record for the colony, horses totalling 100 more than were entered at either the Chrisichurch or Pahnerston shows. For jumping, over 40 "hors-es have entered. The meniberphip of the association has increased by 100.
