Three Marlborough volunteers have been j fined for absenting themselves from parades. The penalties ranged from £2 to £3 10s. A baby girl in New Zealand has been christened "Khakina. The same word in Maori, but spelt slightly different, means *'no good."
A kerosene lamp in Rico and Co.'s confectionery shop in Gore burst the other night, and for a moment or two a general coufiagaition was threatened. The timely aid of a number of spectators was fortunately effective in extinguishing the flames before much damage was dcaia.
