WELLINGTON, November 16. The Speaker notifies in tho Gazette that the seat of Hone Heke in the House of Representatives for the Northern Maori district has become vacant by the :ea&on of his having been adjudged a bankrupt. It is gazetted that the census will be taken on the night of 31st March next. The Hon. Mr Ward is gazetted Minister of Public Health. The services of the Grsytown, Cromwell, Clyde, and Ellesmere Rifle Companies have been accepted. Lieutenant J. E. Hume, of the New Zealand Permanent Militia, has been promoted ]? aJ a ?i X of ca P tain - and Surgeon-major -h>. fc>. Keid to be brigade-surgeon. Lieutenant-colonel-captain Robert Huehep (Wanganui Rifles) has been awarded the "imperial volunteers officers' decoration. Mr F. E. Baume has been gazetted viceconsul for Denmark at Auckland. Letters of naturalisation were i&sued to 14 persons last month. The Totara Rifles have been disbanded.
