Fired by Bands Hands.
In this little sketch yoix see roughly illustrated one of the latest devices for achieving an end recently very much in view, namely, that of blowing up the enemy. At once we may state that, though our own engineers have experimented with it, this is a method that is forbidden in civilised warfare. Still, in case it might be used against us by an enemy, we do well to be prepared to answer in kind. A shell, or other explosive charge, is attached in a certain way to a, small balloon, which, fronr the right direction, is sent into
the air. The army experts can ealciilate very exactly the position of the shell-carrying baloon, and when it is exactly over the enemy's position a wonder is achieved. By means of a->urrent of electricity sent by a, system of wireless telegraphy, the shell is released from the balloon, and a few seconds later it explodes amidst the foe. This feat — without the foe — has already been accomplished at a distance of nearly four miles from the' balloon.
