AROUND THE WORLD.
(FaoH Otago "Witness Specials.) Wellington, November i. Dear Bis, — While on a visit to windy Wellington for a few weeks' holiday, I have been doing the '"alls." Among the doiemost are the everpopulai Pollards, who have "been giving us frequent changes lor the last inonln, piior to visiting Auscialia. Business hes been brilliant — exceptionally so -for the last week, for JJ]in Djm" is a money-maker, for the Pollaids anyhow. This season 'has bee*-, one of the best they have aver hud, and the management oughtto teel piouct "of .the enthusiastic send-off they got. Dixs Gaiety Company, at the Exchange Hall, is playing to veiy gooa Housed, in spite of countei atui actions, and giving a very meritorious Xseriormance. Percy is now m lull bloom at the four chief centres, aiid should give a good account of himself now that vaudeville has -gonied such popularity in Maoriiand. Messis John Fuller and Co. have a good hold in Wellington, and will take a good deal of run-nmg-ofl. They bill the II 11I 1 lying Jcrdanb on Monday night, with Sivroni, F. Bluett, etc., who arc certainly worth a visit. I looked in at tzie 1< ederal one 'night. I have seen better performances m the " iNever-never" country by bushmen and &heaoers, and vith th« exception of Joe Watts ( a clever dancer who bhuhies nightly) they ought to go to work on the whaif. Wellington is 'full of actors of "lepute" and otnerwi&e, chiefly otheiwiae,. and it must b3 a pleasure tor you to be away from them for a lew weeks. . * The M'Adoo Jubilee Singers opened here on the 27th oilt. to a large house, and with an excellent piogramme. A seaond part artist,- Willis Gause, a male soprano, will become very popular. His is an artistic performance ; tney <u-e presenting living pictures oi the Passion Play at Oberammergau, and an ably-told description is given by Eugene M'Adoo. This is all the news this week from, — Yours truiy, ALBiIKT HIDWARUS, — (One of the Jays). Christchurch, November 13. Dear Bis, — I suppo&e you think I have forgotten you altogether. The last letter you lost; teaiful loss, was it not? Mi P. It. Dix ha» made great alterations to the Opera Uoiise, and intends to nm nothing but an up-to-date show here. We opened with Miss Ivy Scott last week, being her first appearance an New Zcp- j land. She leceived a good reception, and went well. ' Little Claude Sullivan, s midget, faiily biing? down the house every night. "You will have him up youi way shortly; he is -a marvel. James C. ,13am always scores heavily with his iuuniosities. Mr Dix intends to fit the Opera House withelectric light, and altei the diess circle, so his patrons won't have the chance to complain about comfort. Shows are as thick as bees down here tlrs week. Here is a list : — Pollards, Carnival (alocal affair;, Exhibition, \Vaxworks, Fuller's, Wild West Show, Broncho (^ec-rge, M'Adoo's Jubilee .Singers, Dixs Craiety Company, andnumerous side shows. Trusting you are keeping well, and with best .wishes to the Old Reliable, — Yours truly, WILL JAMJESON-, Manager P. E. Dixs G-aiety Company, Christchurch.
