The son of Castor-— Hilda has lightened up somewhat" since visit-, ing the Jubilee fixture. Le Glair, who I reported had gone amiss, haa now recovered from her lameness. She ■underwent slow work yesterday morning. , Gladys II was very sore before competing at the Taieri meeting, but has since got over 'her larrreness. Nihilist has gone sore, and will not make 'the trip .north to the Wellington meeting. Mr M'Kewen intends bringing the h,orse home from Ohristchurch to Dunedin. Jimmy, the winner of the Dash. Handicap at the Winton fixture, was sold after the race, to" Mr' J". Finnegan, of Winton. Jimmy won <his event very easily in 2min 55sec. • Sine- returning from Christchurch Goldspur has been turned out in a paddock through the day. The, son of Rubezahl did . mot, race up, to expectations at the New Zealand Cup meeting: ' ' • " When competing in the Hack Race at the (.I'aieri meeting Benson broke a blood vessel, Which was trie cause of his being pulled up, and also of his bad showing in the race. 'lifter' his trip north. „, . . ' 'Since* competing at the Taieri meeting l"juickshot;~the Otago Central mare, has been .placed in Geo. -Smith's stable,, to , be trained for- future 'engagements. This Cramer has in " ihand at, present "Witchcraft, Red Banner, Oft ' iDliance/St. 1 Hiko, and' Bracken. Quickshot ; .will make the trip round the goldfields meet- . rings next month. The four-year-old gelding by Abercorn has greatly improved this last two weeks, having - filled out considerably. ,W. Higgins, the trainer of Pipi, won no
less than four races at the Winton gathering. He also rode two dead heats for second place and two thirds. Higgins was in great form in the saddle. Pioneer, the Southland hurdle racer, wil' arrive this week to take part in the D.J.C. meeting. He will be accommodated at Mr A. E. Bacon's, at Mosgiel. Tuesday, November 20. . The course is very soft at present, owing to the recent heavy, rain. On Sunday the tracks were covered wiih water, caused by the creek not being cleaned out below the club's ground. It would be a great benefit to both the Jockey Club and the holders of properties themselves if the creek was cleaned regularly, and thus allow the water to have a clear course. While walking along the road yesterday Secret Service stumbled and*-fell on-Jiis knees. The son of Stepniak escaped with a few scratches. This is the second time this horse •has had a fall. - -' . Goldspur has contracted a lump on his neck , since returning from Cxiristchurch. -Mr Snowball, the veterinary surgeon, inspected the horse the other day. and attributes the swelling to a cold. Mr Godfrey's gelding is also troubled- with* a slight cough,_which will, necessitate him. being rested for a few dajys. E. M'Kewen is expected to arrive this'week, with Nihilist and The Orphan. The latter was - purchased by Mr M'Kewen while in Christchurch. This trainer has found accom--modatioff at Mr A. E. Bacon's, "Mosgiel. Mr V.
