October 25. — A shooting match by two wellknown residents of Lawrence was fired at the Wetkerstones niie range last Wednesday, the s.takes being foi .Co aside, distance 500 yds. The odds were on Mr C, who is an ex-volun-teer, hr.vmg been a member of the late Tuapeka Rifles, winning. Mr M'K. (another ex-volun-teer, and who has joined the mounted rifles) acted as judge and referee. Mr C. wen the match by 40 points to Mr A.'s 20. The winner was at once challenged by Mr G., another exvoluntecr, for .61 aside, and he again scored a win. In overhauling the rifle tho loseis v/eie shooting out of, it was found that it was sighted up to 550 yds. A triangular duel was at once got up, for a sweepstake of £1 each, to be fired next Wednesday. Mr C. is trying to get up a match of civilians against the present mounted volunteers, 10 aside, to come off at some future date. The odds would be on the civilians winning, for they would be laigely, or all, composed of some of the best shots belonging to the old Tuapeka Rifle Volunteers.
