SOUTHLAND LAND BOARD.
The meeting hold on Thursday, October 25, was attended by the Chief Commission (Mr Barron) and Messrs J. M'lntyre, A. Kinross, A. Baldey, and D. King. The Surveyor-general forwarded a petition from J. .ttumphrey and others at Haldane, asking that another block of land be opened for; selection in block X, Waikawa. — The commissioner and Messrs Kinross and Baldey to in* spect and report. A communication was received from the Sur-i veyor-general in regard to the balance of pre« emptive right on pastoral run 208, "Wairaln, tha Otago School Commissioners having desired; that the land be proclaimed an education reserve.— .Resolved that the board recommend tha reservation of the land as requested. "W. J . Perry applied for permission to reconstruct his tramway on section 334, Longwocd, and cut out balance of timber outside that soldi to M'Calhun and Co.— Granted, the timber tq be cut in six months' time. The ranger was instructed to report on J. Ev Gordon's tvonlication for lease of ten acres of bush reserve at "Woodend. It was resolved to inform the Southland County Council that reservation, as quarry reserve, of section 93, Taringatura district, cannot be withdrawn and land sold without special legislation, the section having been gazetted in 1869. H. Massey and Co. asked peirnission to reserve tramway rights through No. 225 and section 33, block V, Mubel Hundred. — Granted at 10s per annum, without license fee. F. J. Dyer wrote declining to offer 2-3 per acre for small grazing run No. 88, Centre Hill, on pastoral lease. — Resolved that valuation for improvements be reduced by Is 3d and run r&ofiered. J. Hunter's application for lease of part of section 5, block I, Alton, with valuation for improvements, was declined. The lolloping applications for land were graafced: — James Camobell, section 13:}, block XII, Waiau; J. Gall,"" section 12, block IV, \Varkaia; and J. M'Donald, section Xo. 757, Hokonui. The following transfers were approved: — Sections 10 and 13, block VIII, "Waikawa, fiom Andrew HaldMic to aincs Haldane ; section No. 120, xakatimo, from A. M'Kenzic to H. Story. Several matters were dealt with m- committee and the board adjourned.
