THE THAMES DEEP LEVELS,
AUCKLAND, October 24.
The warden at the Thames refused the application of the Thames-Hauraki Company for permission to work with six men until the end of this year. The company got JE25,000 from the Government on condition that they would sink to 1000 ft, with a view to testing the deep levels of the Thames goldfields. Already the company has spent .£120,000 in addition to the Government subsidy, and are now pumping- to 668 ft. The funds have given ou-t, and the company is in liquidation. The warden sympathised with the company, and, m culinary circumstances, would have granted a concession, but they wero tied up by the contract with the Government, and the application must be refused.
