Nelson Bros, have received the following cable from the Colonial Consignment and Distributing Company, London: — "Frozen mutton market: To-day's quotations — Canterbury, 4^d; Dunedin and Southland, 4d; Napier and North Island, 3gd. Lamb — First quality, 4|d ; second, 41d." CLEARING SALE AT MERRIVALE. U?rom Our Own Correspondent.) INVERCARGILL, October 25. Messrs Tothill, Watson, and Co. and the National Mortgage and Agency Company conjointly held yesterday, at the Merrivale station, near Otautau, one of the largest clearing sales of sheep and cattle that has taken place in the district for a long time. The well-known quality of the stock and big locs attracted buyers from distant places, including several from Canterbury and North Otago. Breeding ewes and breeding cows were not auctioned, but are for sale privately. Crossbred hoggets brought in large lines from 15s 5d down to 11s "Bd. In cattle, 14 three and four-year-old steers sold at £7 5s 6d; diddo at £6 11s; spayed cows and heifers, £5; 93 two-year-old steers, £i 17*t 53 three-year-old heifers £4 2b 6d ; 82 two-year-old heifers, £3 17s ; yearlings (steers and heifers), £3 7s; 70 weaners, £2 12s.
