The quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,280,000 quar-J ters, and for the Continent 1,115,000 quar-'l ters.
Bank shares : Bank of Australasia, £74 ; Union Bank, £38 ; others unchanged. Silver is quoted at 26^d per ounce. October 26.
The Bank of England returns for the week show the reserve to be £21,908,000 ; the stock of gold coin and bullion, £31,807,000 ; proportion of reserve to liabilities, 43.89 ; in circulation, £29,480,000 ; public, deposits, £8,048,000; other deposits^' £40,979,000; Government securities, ±,26,191,000; other securities, £25,608,000. Three months' bills are discounted at 3| per cent. Consols are quoted at £98 15s. Quotations for colonial Government stocks are subjoined, compared with those ruling at the close of last week : —
The wheat markets are inactive. Piices at Mark Lane have declined about 6d on the week. Cargoes are dull. Victorian, off the coast, are held at 30s 9d ; Septem-ber-October shipments, 31s. Silver is quoted at 2s 5 15-16 d per oz. Copper is nominal. Spot, £72 ; three months, £72 7s 6d. Tin is active. Spot, £127 10s. Lead, £17 10s. Iron, 66s 6d. The Bradford wool market is lifeless. Common sixties, 17^d ; supers, 18-^d. At the sales there was better competition, and prices were firm at late rates. The following clips were sold : — Mendip Hills, 9£d ; Paporangi, 9^d. " The butter market is quiet, and there is rather less demand for colonial, which is unchanged. Danish is strong at 1245.
