LONDON, October 24. The Times hopes that Suwarrow Island will 'be annexed immediately, as delay is dangerous where one of the best Pacific harbours is concerned. / CAlßNS, "October 25. H.M.S. Torch has arrived from the Solomons. The British flag was hoisted at the following islands acquired by the British under the Sanioan agreement : — Y&obel, Gover, Lord Howe, Tasman group, Fauro, Shortland, and Choiseul. Mr Woodford, the Commissioner at the Solomons, read the proclamation annexing the islands, and the flag was saluted. At Lord Howe Island the Torch scraped a coral reef, but only received slight damage to her keel. At Guadalcanal" an effort was made to redress the burning of the Roman 'Catholic missionary. The chief who committed the deed hid himself. Mr Woodford burned, a few huts, and left the Protestant missionary a .supply of arms and ammunition. The chief had informed the latter that the murder was only a forerunner, as he intended to wipe out every mission. The s.s.
