CALEDONIAN BOWLING CLUB.
This green was formally opened on Saturday afternoon, but owing to the rain which had fallen m the forenoon no play was allowed. In spite of the damp and discouraging state of the weather, there was a large attendance of members of the club, and a few visitois from the Divnedm and Roslyn Clubs,. About 3 o'clock Mr Dawson, the president, went on to tho green, threv; a couple of bowls across it, and in a few remarks, in which he expressed his regret at the very unfavourable weather, and ftiat the state o£ the green precluded any nlay on it, declared it open for the season. He also remarked that the green was in grand order, and expressed the opinion that it was second to none in tho colony. The Sooretury rang the bsll xluee times, and the opening ceremony was completed. An adjournment was then mado to the bowl house, where xeireshments, which had been liberally provided, were partaken of, and a friendly game of cards was played. During the afternoon a few ladies put in an appearance, and weie received with the utmost cordiality, every attention being paid them. The green is looking exceedingly well, thanks, to the care bestowed on it by Mr J. Crawford, and given fine weather the members of the Caledonian Club ought to distinguish themselves this season. Tf they do not, it will not be the fatilt of the green. *
