October 26.— The inquest on the body of tho late Mr William Williams was held on the 20th inst., before Mr William M'Connochie, coroner. The only evidence taken was that of deceased's two sons, John and William, who first saw their father buried under the fall of earth, and that of Dr Stenhouse, medical practitioner. The verdict of- the jury was to the effect that deceased came by his deam by a fall of earth while mining for gold. His mortal remains were interred in the St. Bathans cemetery on Sunday, 21st, and the cortege was followed by a laroe number of people, the general opinion being that it was the largest funeral ever witnessed in this part of the district. Deceased had occupied the position of either president or vice-president of the St. Bathans branch of the Mining Association continuously since its inception until the branch died a natural death. He was a. very useful member of the community, and ho will be greatly missed. The funeral ceremony was conducted by the Rev. Mr J. Gellie, Presbjterian minister, at the house and at the grave. Mr Gellie spoke very feelingly of the good services rendered to the church* by deceased. As is customary with the Welsh people, several h3'mns suitably selected for the occasion from Moody and Sankey's were sung at the house, including "I am waiting for the Master," and among others at the grave was '"In the sweet by-and-bye." The Key. Mr Christian assisted Mr Gellie at the grave. Mr AVilliams came out to Victoria in '54, and not '59' as stated in my last.
